MacOS and Windows

QuickTime comes with PictureViewer. PictureViewer enables you to work with still images in a wide range of common formats. This application, on both the Macintosh and Windows can open, view, print and convert the images (if you have the pro version). For complete information about all that QuickTime can do for you, please visit Apple Computer Inc. web site at http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

MacOS X comes with Preview Application that also has still image export options.

How to Optimize their display of these images

Monitor settings and ambient viewing conditions are the biggest factors in display quality. Control your viewing conditions by viewing your monitor in a dimmed room. Avoid light falling directly on the monitor (it lowers contrast).

Optimize the monitor by setting the following:

  • Color Depth = Millions of colors (24 bit) or at least thousands of colors (16 bit)
You may notice pixelization, or graininess, in the images if you are using a monitor that is limited to 256 colors (8 bit)
  • Gamma = 1.8 (if you have control).
  • White point = cool white (between 6500 and 9300 Kelvin)
  • SVGA (800 x 600 pixels or better).
